Press release from the issuing company
Wesel – ACTEGA, manufacturer of specialty coatings, inks, adhesives, sealants and compounds for the print and packaging industry, has launched its new Ultrasheen® PakSafe UV coatings. PakSafe UV coatings have undergone thorough regulatory analysis and are specially formulated to exclude all California Proposition 65 materials and “forever chemicals” (PFAS - per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances). This new, more sustainable line of coatings not only meets a number of regulatory standards but retains the scuff resistance and flexibility required for a wide range of high-quality packaging applications.
ACTEGA’s meticulous approach to research and development has enabled the company to bring the functional and compliant Ultrasheen®?PakSafe UV coatings to market. PakSafe coatings do not require extra testing or exemptions to meet the requirements of California Proposition 65 and the EPA ban on “forever chemicals”. Customers can, therefore, be assured that PakSafe coatings are:
Free of California Proposition 65 chemicals (including TMPTA and benzophenone)
Free of PFAS chemicals
Free of ECHA SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern)
CONEG / TPCH compliant (Lead, mercury, cadmium and hexavalent chromium free)
TSCA compliant
Rob Andrews, Head of Product Management & Technical Service, ACTEGA Paper & Board, explained, “The launch of Ultrasheen®?PakSafe UV Coatings represents a ground-breaking moment for packaging applications, raising the bar even higher when it comes to safety and sustainability standards. These new coatings allow printers and converters to coat their packaging with confidence. By ensuring that our products meet all the necessary regulatory requirements, our customers can avoid the burden of worrying about complex industry standards, allowing them to focus their efforts on delivering their own exceptional, more sustainable products.”
The new PakSafe UV Coatings range also caters to ACTEGA customers’ need to offer brands creative solutions that stand out on the shelf. The range includes a variety of gloss-level options for customers to choose from, including gloss, satin, and matt. The coatings are also compatible with ACTEGA Motioncoat® UV technology – an innovative solution for offset litho presses that achieves a unique visual ‘in motion’ effect in a single pass. PakSafe coatings can also have hot or cold foil applied and, as part of ACTEGA’s Strike-Through portfolio, be used to create stunning visual and haptic effects.
Compatible with litho/ink-trains, coater units or screen presses, the new Ultrasheen® PakSafe line also offers customers excellent production flexibility.
Rob Andrews concludes, “This seamless integration, combined with the many impactful design choices available, makes choosing the more sustainable option very easy. PakSafe coatings enable our customers to offer brands and end-users a solution that ticks every box and takes the hassle out of their own production processes at the same time.”
